In class today

Marissa,
In class today Mary and I worked on the home page for our website. We all need to get together to figure out who is doing what. If you could look up some standards that we could use that would be amazing! We talked to Professor Peterson and she said that she will be here Monday the 22nd so we can work on it together. See ya then!

My absence

Hi girls!
So Sorry that I cannot be in class today, I had some other things that needed priority this morning. I will be there next week, and if we need to meet up this week or something we can try to make that happen.

Let me know what you need me to get done for the website!

Talk soon!
~Marissa

Mary's Podcast Script

Hi Parents! This is Miss Hitt. I am a third grade teacher at Silver Lake Elementary.

So far we have been doing some great activities with recycling. One in which the students really enjoyed was “Trash into Treasures”. In the project students split up into groups and came up with ideas of things they could make out of items they throw away every day. At the end of the project each group presented the item they had made in front of the class, and also went over what this item would be used for, and what kind of people benefit from this item. This is great because not only are your children practicing creativity, working with others, computer skills and public speaking, but they are also discovering how to make our world a nicer place. The students as a class have also watched some great videos made by us teachers, informing them on how to recycle and the importance of doing so. I am very excited about this unit and the students seem to be enjoying it too.
Now, I’d like to introduce Miss Newcomb who will be going over our main goal for this unit.

Podcast...

This podcast will be great... I hope that we do well on it. We spent a ton of time on it! The website wont be too bad, it seems like a collaboration of the work we have complete this semester so far.

Podcast: Marissa's Podcast Script! :)

Welcome Parents of third graders at Silver Lake Elementary. This podcast is just for you as parents to know what your children are up to in the classrooms. I’m Ms. Ingle one of the three third grade teachers in our school district.

We are working our way through a unit on recycling. We are incorporating many subject areas in the work that the students are completing. We are calling the combinations of subject areas, and uses of technology, and multiple learning styles addressed in our unit: Project Based Learning. This is a new movement in the teaching world where students take a larger role in the learning process with different pieces of a whole to compete a collaborative work of art.
Recycling is a large concept to undertake, and we as a group of teachers are working together to make this unit seem cohesive. I have begun the unit with helping the students learn to research effectively in our school’s computer lab, organize and understand where and what can be recycled at certain places in their community.
Students will have already begun brainstorming and researching about where they can recycle, what they can recycle, and they are also completing surveys from other students and teachers in the school to see where they recycle their recyclable materials.
This unit has posed for amazing learning experiences to happen in the classroom. Students are becoming more fluent in their computer skills, and they communicate with their classmates to present their findings from research. And lastly, students are using their social skills to interview peers, teachers and even family members to gain a deeper understanding of the necessity of recycling in our local community.
This unit will open our student’s eyes about the global impact that they can have by starting recycling programs in their school and community to better the world they live in.

Now, I’d like to introduce Ms. Hitt who will be introducing what students are up to in the classroom with projects and ideas about what recycling can mean to them directly here in their own classrooms.

Podcast-Brittany's script

Hello parents! This is Miss Newcomb and I am also one of the third grade teachers at Silver Lake Elementary. Myself, as well as the other two third grade teachers, are very excited about this Unit on Recycling!
Ultimately, our goal is to create a community that promotes recycling within Silver Lake Elementary School. In order to be successful in creating this pro recycling community here in the school, we need the help of everyone. This includes teachers, students, parents, and family members at home. Our final goal is to have a school atmosphere at Silver Lake Elementary that is conducive to good recycling habits. With the involvement of each and every classroom in the school, we want to make school wide recycling bins to place in each classroom, as well as high traffic areas such as the cafeteria, the playground, the parking lot, the school office, the library, and even in the hallways. By doing this, we are hoping that students will begin to see how easy and efficient recycling can be and how important it is to a community, not only to reduce unnecessary waste, but also to try to instill in others the importance of reducing waste, reusing recyclable materials, and recycling products appropriately. By creating this school wide recycling atmosphere, your children will gain an appreciation for recyclable materials and they will also begin to see how their efforts to recycle at school can also be done at home. These small steps can promote recycling within the larger community and our ideas can be used to create neighborhood and community wide recycling.

Marissa: Podcast Ideas

So, for the podcast, I'll be doing the introduction, and I'll be working through that script all the way until Monday calss next week, and then we can get things recorded for us to get this project completed.

Have fun girls! See you tonight at Lecture! :)

Lesson Plan #2

For lesson plan #2, I'm going to be collecting data on the number of recycled items brought into school. I will be dividing it up by how many items each class brings in and what kind of item they brought ex bottles, cans, paper, and plastic.

Revised Concept Map

Lesson Plan #2-Brittany

For this lesson plan, I will be doing "what classes will participate in a recycling project schoolwide?"
I am changing my lesson plans a bit. I am focusing on where students can recycle:

Lesson Plan 1: Research locations for recycling in their area

Lesson Plan 2: Data Collection in regards to where students can recycle!
So I'll be honest, the lesson plans are a bit difficult to make sure that all three of us are flowing with our theme!

Oh Well! We'll make it work!

I'll have to fix lesson plan #1!

Movie

Hey Guys! For my movie I will be doing a fictional movie about what the world would look like if we didn’t recycle.

Monday, October 11, 2010

Lesson plan

For the final assessment for the lesson plan I am going to have the students do a powerpoint. I just wanted to post this so that none of us do the same thing :)
For my movie I will be doing a fictional movie about the journey of a can all the way to a recycling location.

Brittanys Movie Maker Idea

For the movie, I think that I am going to take a recyclable, household object and show how it can be used for something else

Mary's lesson plan topic

question?

Ladies, I was wondering if we could do a different grade level than kindergarten? I'm having trouble finding websites that would work for students that young!

Lesson Plan Idea

I just wanted to let my group know that I got an idea for my lesson plan. I think that I am going to narrow my concept of where does the recycling go to: Where does the pop can go? In class we will focus on the pop cans, and where they go at recycling centers. Then as an extension, I will be having the students research another item that can be recycled, and research and find it's place of being recycled. IT will be a big web that we can put together for closure of the unit! I'm excited about it!

Monday, October 4, 2010

Brittany's Lesson plan topic

My topic is going to be Recyclable Materials at Home, prior to Mary's Lesson

Topic for Marissa's Lesson Plan

For Lesson Plan #1 I will be focusing on what to do with recyclable materials. I hope that students will gain a better understanding of what to do with all the objects they learned about in previous lessons. My lesson will be at the end of a unit to sum everything up for the students and bring great closure to the unit on recycling!
